1. Gifting Guidelines
Please be sure your request fits within the Foundation’s Gifting Guidelines:
- The Grigg Lewis Foundation, Inc., is a private non-operating foundation. Our board members have a fiduciary responsibility to honor our founder’s wishes and ensure that the Foundation continues perpetually.
- Each request is reviewed carefully and objectively to ensure that we are here as an asset to Eastern Niagara County and Western New York residents for many years to come.
- The Foundation will review grants for projects or programs that primarily serve residents of Eastern Niagara County. The board will also consider projects and programs from the boarder Niagara County and Western New York areas, provided they are not duplicative and demonstrate a clear, proven need.
- Multi-year, challenge, or matching grants will be considered.
- Applying agencies must be able to provide a copy of their 501c3 IRS determination letter.
- The Foundation values collaborations between nonprofit organizations.
- Applicants should have identified additional funding sources and must demonstrate sustainability.
2. Primary Funding Areas
All requests must it into at least one of our primary funding areas:
- Arts & Cultural Programs
- Community Improvement
- Educational Programming
- Local Historical Preservation
- Health & Wellness Programs (non-clinical)
- Human Services
- Senior Programs
- Youth Programs
The Foundation does not typically fund scholarships or religious organizations that are not historically supported by our founder, Henrietta Grigg Lewis.
The Foundation is unable to make grants to individuals.
3. To Submit a Request for Funding
Please start by clicking the link below. You will be asked to create an account and to start with a Letter of Inquiry.
Before you login to the Grant Portal, please review each of the tutorial links below in their entirety.

- After creating an account, you will be required to submit a Letter of Inquiry.
- Once your Letter of Inquiry has been reviewed, you will receive an email notification either inviting you to proceed with the application or declining your request.
